چکیده
This paper briefly summarizes Ulrich Fehl’s important contributions to Austrian capital theory. While his work is well known in Europe he remains a relative unknown to the English speaking world. The intent of this paper is to introduce Ulrich Fehl to English-speaking economists who are interested in the Austrian School of economics. Ulrich Fehl (born in 1939) was full professor for General Economic Theory at Philipps-University in Marburg (Germany) from 1987 until his retirement in late 2004. He studied economics in Münster, Gießen, and Erlangen/Nuremberg. In 1971 he received his Ph.D. from Philipps-University. From 1980 until 1987 he held the chair for economic theory at Carl-von-Ossietzky-University in Oldenburg (Germany). During this time, Fehl was a lecturer and an assistant professor holding the Ernst Heuss chairs in Erlangen/Nuremberg and Marburg. I. ULRICH FEHL—GERMAN ECONOMIST OF DISTINCTION Ulrich Fehl is one of the last universally educated scholars among contemporary German economists. His academic work comprises profound research and teaching macroas well as microeconomics. Fehl’s scope of thinking also extends beyond economics into history and social philosophy. Throughout his academic life, Ulrich Fehl has been a strong proponent of THE QUARTERLY JOURNAL OF AUSTRIAN ECONOMICS 12, NO. 3 (2009): 79–88

Abstract The theory of international tax competition suggests that governments attempt to attract mobile capital bases by undercutting the foreign capital tax rate. An analysis of the role that state capacity plays in tax policymaking under international pressures is, however, missing. The central contribution of our study is to highlight the importance of the interaction between state capaci...

We develop an overlapping generations model of human capital accumulation and analyze its spatial and temporal properties. The interplay between local spillovers of human capital and global market participation partitions the society into socio-economic classes. We focus upon stationary equilibria and show that a large class of them are locally stable. Stationary equilibria can be homogeneous (...

This paper analyzes economic uctuations in an overlapping generations economy with productive capital in which random shocks in aggregate productivity are present. Under speci c assumptions we obtain an explicit solution of the model. Applying random dynamical systems theory, we can prove that the long-run behavior of the economy is uniquely described by an asymptotically stable random xed poin...

One contribution of this paper is introducing a new approach for measuring government expenditures devoted to PR protection. Calculating physical capital within the introduced new approach is another contributio...
